
Linda M. Sands, a lifelong area resident, died on Feb. 25 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was 69.
Sands worked at various restaurants throughout her career, including her parents’ restaurants, The Gateway Diner and the Sands Millerton Diner. Prior to her retirement she worked at the Talk of the Towne Deli in Millerton.
She was born on March 28, 1956, in Sharon, Conn., the daughter of Douglas L. and Hilda M. (Palmer) Sands and attended schools in the Webutuck School District in Amenia.
Sands is survived by her husband, Ronald Jones, of Copake; two daughters, Carrie (Wesley) Wessel of Ancram and Brenda Sands of Amenia; a stepdaughter, Tina (Jeff) Jones McAlister; a sister, Katherine Acklin of Millerton; two brothers, Larry (Linda) Sands of Stephentown and Douglas Sands of Millerton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Bob Sands; a stepson, Tad Jones; a stepdaughter, Melonie Pallman; and a granddaughter, Natasha Collette Marie Sublew, died before her.
Calling hours will be on March 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a funeral service, at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Ave., Millerton. A reception will follow at the Millerton Fire Co., 24 Century Blvd., Millerton. The family requested that contributions in Sands’s memory be made to the Roe Jan Food Pantry, 2684 Route 23, Hillsdale, N.Y. 12529.
