Silas Wilhoite, employed by Isaac Huntting, was on his way home from Pine Plains when near Mrs. Keefer’s residence at Bethel, the horse became frightened and ran away. Wilhoite was thrown out and his foot was caught in a wheel and the bones badly broken. The horse ran to the wagon house of Mr. Huntting and stopped. The injured man was found about an hour after the accident and conveyed to his home. Dr. Cotter made him as comfortable as possible for the night and Friday morning took him to the hospital at Matteawan. A consultation of physicians was held and the bone was found so badly shattered that it was impossible to move the foot and amputation was decided to be necessary. The foot was amputated at the ankle. Mr. Wilhoite is an honest, industrious man and has a wife and two children. Mrs. Wilhoite visited her husband in the hospital on Tuesday and found him doing well.
