
John J. Bray of Stanfordville died on June 29. He was 84.
Bray was born in the Bronx to Catherine Kelly and John Patrick Bray. He graduated from Martin Van Buren High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University.
He joined the New York City Police Department in 1963 and retired in 1983 with the rank of lieutenant. He then became personnel director at the Astor Home for Children in Rhinebeck, from which he retired in 2009, after which he became director of operations at the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie.
Bray was married to his wife, Ann, for more than 50 years. They had three children, Kimberly (Michael) Canner, Jennifer (Richard) Lamping, and Douglas Bray. He also had eight grandchildren: Emily, Richie, Jason, Hailey, Stella, Cayden, Gavin, and Delaney and three siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on July 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on July 5 at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Stanfordville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations in Bray’s memory be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
