
David A. Snyder died on May 1 at his home in Manassas, Va.
Snyder was born on April 27, 1943, in Hartford, Conn., the son of George Russell Snyder and Grace Grant Snyder, three minutes before his twin brother, Roger W. Snyder. In 1945, the family moved to Copake and then to Chimney Hill Farm in Ancramdale, where the road past the farm was later named for the Snyder family.
Snyder graduated from Pine Plains Central School in 1961 and from Cornell University in 1965 with a bachelor of arts degree.
After college, he began a career in railroads, initially working for the New York Central Railroad. He eventually worked for eight different railroads across the United States.
He married Joan Osborn in 1967, with whom he had two daughters.
Snyder married Suzanne Plaza on June 21, 2008, in Kennebunk, Maine. She survives him, as do two daughters, Robin (Michael) Dailey and Laura (Lindsay) Smith; two step-daughters, Morgen Plaza and Sarah Plaza; his twin brother, Roger; a sister, Anne (Thomas) Mondelci; five grandchildren: Sophie Smith, Charlie Smith, Patrick Dailey, James Dailey, and Avery Greene; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, George, died in 2024, and a sister, Anne, died in infancy.
