Robert A. Barton of Copake Falls died on Jan. 23. He was 80.
Barton was born in Great Barrington, Mass., on Nov. 22, 1944, along with his twin brother Richard, to Kenneth L. Barton and Carolyn H. (Chadbourne) Barton, and grew up in Ancramdale.
Barton attended elementary school at Pine Plains Central School, middle school at Immaculate Conception School in Amenia, and high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson. He received an associate’s degree from Dutchess Community College.
Barton served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, and then bought a small general store in Copake Falls with his twin brother, which they ran for five years. Barton then worked for the U.S. Veterans Administration until his retirement in 2007.
Upon his retirement, he returned to Ancramdale with his partner, John (Jack) W. Seiber, and they married in 2011. They moved to Florida, and Barton returned to Copake Falls upon Seiber’s death.
Barton is survived by three brothers, Kenneth Barton, Gerald Barton, and Richard Barton; a sister, Elizabethe Podris; six nephews, Brian Barton, Jeffrey Barton, Michael Barton, Jason Podris, David Podris and Hunter Barton; a niece, Kristin Barton; and many great nieces and great nephews. Another brother, Walter E. Barton, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on May 2 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Copake Falls. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains, with a reception to follow. The family asked that memorial donations be made to the Ancramdale Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 99, Ancramdale, N.Y. 12503.
