On Monday, Nov. 18, the Milan Town Board adopted the town’s 2025 budget and approved a series of resolutions aimed at advancing town operations and infrastructure projects.
The board approved a $3,772,215 budget for the coming year. Estimated revenues include $1,030,774 from state aid and other sources, supplemented by $992,942 from the town’s appropriated fund balance. The remaining $1,748,499 will be raised through property taxes.
In a key motion, the board approved and authorized the supervisor to sign a 2025 contract with the Milan Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
The board also addressed regulatory updates, designating itself as lead agency for proposed Local Law #5 of 2024, which seeks to delete Chapter 7 from the town code. Members declared the action as Type II under state environmental quality review law, meaning it requires no further environmental assessment. A public hearing on the proposed law was scheduled for Dec. 16 at 6:55 p.m. at the Milan Town Hall.
To bolster the town’s assessment capabilities, the board established a new part-time assessor position and appointed Elizabeth Burns to the role. Burns will serve through Sept. 30, 2025, and her appointment is expected to enhance property valuation services in the town.
Infrastructure improvements also featured prominently. The board authorized KC Engineering to proceed with culvert projects on Battenfeld Road and Torre Rock Road, based on proposals submitted last month. Additionally, the board approved a proposal from Optimus for bid documents and architectural and engineering work, including the renovation of the former assessor’s office and site lighting enhancements. The $11,600 project aims to improve town facilities and safety.
The next Milan Town Board meeting is on Dec. 16, where additional updates on Local Law #5 and other town matters are expected.
